FLIR Systems To Boost US Airport Security

FLIR Systems announced that it has received multiple awards totaling $2 million during 2007 to supply thermal security cameras to airports around the U.S. FLIR's thermal and multi-sensor security cameras were selected for installation at major airports throughout the country, including Dallas-Ft. Worth, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, and the New York area's four major airports -- Kennedy, LaGuardia, Newark and Teterboro.

The installations are part of the Department of Homeland Security's domestic airport Perimeter Intrusion Detection initiative.

FLIR's thermal security cameras are well-suited to secure the long perimeters typically associated with major airports. Their performance features enable them to see intruders at night without expensive and intrusive lighting infrastructure making them flexible and effective airport security tools.

New X-ray Technique Targets Terrorists And Tumors

Scientists at The University of Manchester have developed a new x-ray technique that could be used to detect hidden explosives, drugs and human cancers more effectively. Professor Robert Cernik and colleagues from The School of Materials have built a prototype colour 3D X-ray system that allows material at each point of an image to be clearly identified.
