Siemens To Supply 141 Wind Turbines For Oregon Wind Farm

Siemens Power Generation has been awarded another major order for its 2.3-megawatt (MW) wind turbines. Siemens will supply 65 wind turbines for the Biglow Canyon Wind Farm Phase 2 and 76 units for the Biglow Canyon Wind Farm Phase 3 in Sherman County in Oregon. The purchaser is Portland General Electric Company (PGE), a fully integrated utility that serves more than 804,000 customers in Oregon.

The purchases will increase Oregon's wind power capacity by nearly 325 MW, enough power to meet the electricity demand of approximately 100,000 households. Phase 2 is scheduled to be operational in late 2009, and Phase 3 is expected to be on line in late 2010.

With the addition of Phase 2 and Phase 3, PGE will bring the total capacity of its Biglow Canyon Wind Farm to approximately 450 MW. The Siemens scope of supply consists of delivery, installation and commissioning of the 141 SWT-2.3-93 wind turbines with a capacity of 2.3 MW each, including a five- year warranty and separate service and maintenance agreement.

The Siemens 2.3- MW wind turbine has been developed based on 25 years of design and construction experience. With more than 1,300 of these units installed worldwide, it is a proven and reliable source of clean energy.

"This is one of the largest single wind turbine orders we've received in the world's largest wind energy market," stated Andreas Nauen, head of Siemens' wind business. "With nearly 1,000 MW installed or under contract in the Pacific Northwest, Siemens is pleased to have been chosen by PGE to help meet the growing demand for clean, wind-generated electricity."

"Biglow Canyon Wind Farm is a major investment in renewable energy and resource diversity for PGE customers," said Jim Lobdell, PGE's vice president for power operations and resource strategy. "Siemens has the right product and the right know-how to help us ensure the project will be completed efficiently and perform as promised."

The Siemens Energy Sector is the world's leading supplier of a complete spectrum of products, services and solutions for the generation, transmission and distribution of power and for the extraction, conversion and transport of oil and gas. In fiscal 2007 (ended September 30, based on IFRS), the Energy Sector had revenues of approximately EUR20 billion and received new orders totaling around EUR28 billion and posted a profit of EUR1.8 billion.

The Energy Sector had a work force of 73,500 at the beginning of fiscal 2008.

AeroVironment Awarded Patents For Architectural Wind Building-Integrated Energy Generation System

AeroVironment has been awarded three utility patents and six design patents by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) along with 12 European design patents relating to new approaches to renewable energy generation on buildings. The USPTO awarded the patents relating to the incorporation of AV's Architectural Wind system on rooftops.
