Vanguard ID is installing a solar power roof array with panels from Sharp. The solar array, designed and built by Progressive Power Group of California, is expected to provide eighty-two percent of the company's power supply each year.

Construction of the 360 kilowatt solar installation was completed on March 28, 2011. The array, partially funded by Pennsylvania and federal grants, is expected to save the company more than $50,000 in energy costs annually.

"We're pleased to see more American companies supporting the goal of energy independence and job creation through solar power," said Eric Hafter, Senior Vice President, Sharp Solar Energy Solutions Group.

"Vanguard ID is joining organizations around the country that are recognizing solar energy as a way to help create jobs and save money while contributing to a healthier environment."

"This project is a great example of what private industry can do with the support of innovative state and federal programs" said Chris Staskewicz at Progressive Power Group, which was named Sharp's top new contractor in 2009.

"We're so pleased to add the Vanguard ID project to our portfolio of corporate installations," he said.

Richard Warther, president of Vanguard ID Systems, explained that the Progressive Power Group team "were by far the most knowledgeable of the six different companies that we spoke to before we decided who we were going to go with. They explained that they had over 100 locations installed and it showed all throughout the project from start to finish. We couldn't have been happier with their outstanding professionalism.

This system takes us one step closer to being the most "green" manufacturing facility possible. With 23 Geothermal wells installed in 2001 and now with this Solar system; we are closer to creating a zero carbon footprint. We believe that wind will put us over the top and eliminate the need for outside energy. We're looking into it".

The Vanguard ID solar project utilizes 1,625 of Sharp's NU-U235F1 solar modules. Using breakthrough technology, made possible by nearly 50 years of proprietary research and development, this panel is designed to provide high-power output which is ideal for large commercial rooftop applications like this one.
