US encouraged by Iran nuclear talks resumption: Clinton

by Staff Writers
Astana (AFP) Dec 1, 2010
The United States is encouraged that Iran has agreed to resume talks with Western powers over its contested nuclear programme in Geneva next week, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Wednesday.

"We are encouraged that Iran has agreed to meet in Geneva next week," she said at a news conference on the sidelines of the OSCE summit in Astana.

"This is an opportunity for Iran to come to the table and discuss the matters that are of concern for the international community, first and foremost their nuclear programme."

After months of stalling, the talks will finally restart in Geneva on December 6 and 7, the office of the European Union's chief diplomat Catherine Ashton announced on Tuesday.
