US 'disturbed' by Argentine seizure of military cargo

by Staff Writers
Washington (AFP) Feb 14, 2011
The United States said Monday it was "disturbed" by Argentina's seizure of equipment from a US military aircraft last week and urged Buenos Aires to return it.

"We are disturbed it was handled in this way," State Department spokesman Philip Crowley told reporters. "We continue to call on the Argentine government to return our equipment."

Argentina earlier Monday said it plans to lodge a formal protest with Washington after seizing what it said were undeclared weapons and drugs on a US military aircraft last week.

Officials in the South American country have said they seized "sensitive material" that had not been declared in a manifest submitted by the US embassy.
