The U.S. Air Force, Ukraine and Britain are continuing joint flying exercises in the Black Sea Region.

Exercise Sea Breeze 2021 is underway from June 28 to July 10 in Ukraine.

The exercises are continuing despite an alleged breach of territory in late June in which Russian jets fired warning shots at a British ship.

The event is being conducted in cooperation with the United States and Ukraine, as well as the support of NATO allies and partners.

The operations have been conducted annually for nearly two and a half decades.

"Exercise #SeaBreeze2021 brings together over 30 countries to #Ukraine & #BlackSea to operate and train alongside each other, like we have done since 1997!!!" the Operation Sea Breeze twitter account stated.

The exercises allow military personnel to prepare for real world situations.

Altogether 5,000 U.S. troops, 32 vessels and 40 aircraft are taking part in the operations.

This year aircraft from partner nations are conducting 60 operations in the Black Sea region in cooperation with ground and naval support.

"[W]e intend to build on two decades of iterations that will only grow our experiences, teamwork, and knowledge that we will carry back to share with our nations," Capt. Stewart Bauman, U.S. Navy lead training officer, said in a release by the U.S. European Command.

"U.S. Sixth Fleet alongside our NATO Allies and partners in the Black Sea region will work together to enhance interoperability and promote security and stability," Bauman said.

The dates of the military exercises are significant as they encompass both Ukraine Navy Day and United States Independence Day.

In celebration, aircraft from several nations flew over Mykolaiv, Odessa and Kulbakino to welcome the international community to visit Ukraine.

"The main purpose of Exercise Sea Breeze is to ensure security for peace," Lt. Col. Anatoliy Glynenko, Head of Exercise Sea Breeze Aviation Component, said according to U.S. European Command.

Earlier this year, U.S. President Joe Biden expressed "deep concern" for Russian military buildup near Ukraine.

Biden also discussed the territory with Russian leader Vladimir Putin who invaded and and led a disputed annexation of Crimea in 2014.

Egypt opens strategic Mediterranean naval base

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Saturday opened a strategic naval base on the Mediterranean Sea to "secure shipping lines", the presidency said.
