Ankara, Turkey (XNA) Jan 05, 2011
Turkey plans to send its first home-made communications test satellite into orbit in September next year, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported Tuesday.

The satellite, 3USAT, will provide wireless voice transmission over an amateur band between two groups of people at two distant locations, the report quoted Alim Rustem Aslan, head of the team manufacturing the satellite, as saying.

The satellite is being developed at the Department of Space Engineering in the Istanbul Technical University in a project launched by Turkey's satellite communications operator Turksat, Aslan said.

He said Turksat was also planning to launch a project in 2015 to manufacture Turkey's first communications satellite.

An Indian rocket placed Turkey's first home-made cubic satellite into orbit in September 2009, according to the report.
