Sungevity has announced that it was honored as one of six companies invited to present at Web 2.0 Summit's Launch Pad event. The theme of the launch pad event -- the fourth to be produced by Web 2.0 -- was "Web Meets World."

Its panel of venture capitalist judges determined that Sungevity's web-based solar installation program is a leading example of creative ways businesses can use Web 2.0 technologies to solve real world problems.

"Our goal is to scale solar electricity as a solution to climate change by making it much more available to the average homeowner," said Danny Kennedy President and CXO of Sungevity. "One mission of Web 2.0 is to use the 'intelligence of everyone' online and Sungevity does just that to save time, money and the planet."

Sungevity is a shining example of a company that tackles a global problem with a Web 2.0 solution. In only 6 months since its launch, Sungevity has sold more than 100 solar installations and is now the fastest growing solar company in California.

Already its environmental impact has been impressive -- Sungevity has saved its early customers over $2 million dollars in electricity bills and abated 2,700 tons of CO2 over the next 25 years.

Already ahead of its revenue targets, Sungevity impressed the judges. "If you look at the growth, the growth and execution has been phenomenal," said Launch Pad VC judge Chris Albinson, managing director, Panorama Capital Partners. "...there's a huge market for consumers. How do you make it simple enough?"

Other Summit speakers included former Vice President Al Gore, Lance Armstrong, Elon Musk of Tesla Motors among others -- many offering new ideas for Web 2.0 solutions to global problems.

Bay Area-based Sungevity differs from other solar providers. Its innovative use of satellite imagery and patent-pending technologies cuts the cost, simplifies the process and makes it easier than ever for homeowners to add solar and experience a lifetime of benefits.

For example, Sungevity's web-based system cuts the initial customer proposal process -- typically a 3-week manual effort -- down to just fifteen minutes.
