Russian state-owned United Instrument Manufacturing Corporation has unveiled plans for its multirole air robotic system, consisting of four robotic helicopters.

The plans include a robot helicopter, observational copter, reconnaissance copter, and attack helicopter. The robots will be deigned to act both independently and as part of a unit. UIMC deputy CEO Sergey Skokov says the goal is to replace human activity in the field.

"The technology developed by Concern Systemprom is designed to effectively replace humans wherever possible," Skokov said. "It can carry out reconnaissance, monitoring, and patrolling missions of indoor and outdoor facilities, transport cargo, prepare cartographic materials, and fulfill combat tasks."

Skokov also noted the role of human management of the robots has been minimized already, saying the devices are able to follow their own routes in operation.

"These robots can navigate through the air without the support of an operator, choose their own routes, carry out reconnaissance work, and interact with other drones and robotic systems," Skokov added.

The robot helicopters will be fitted for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions, payload transport, and combat operations using conventional rockets to take out enemy targets including tanks and armored vehicles. Reconnaissance robots are equipped to record video and still images, and transmit video in real time. Observation robots use satellite navigations systems to locate coordinates and redirect artillery fire.

The plans were presented at the exhibition of the first military-scientific conference Robotics of the Russian Armed Forces.

The U.S. Air Force is deferring the purchase of 45 Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II fighters over the next five years to make room for other procurements.
