Russian gas supplies down 30% at Austrian hub: OMV
by Staff Writers
Vienna (AFP) Feb 2, 2012

Deliveries of Russian natural gas to one of Europe's biggest gas hubs, Baumgarten in Austria, are down around 30 percent due to cold weather, Austrian operator OMV said Thursday.

"Because of the harsh winter in Russia, with temperatures down to minus 35 degrees Celsius (minus 31 degrees Fahrenheit), there are currently constraints on deliveries of natural gas from Russia," OMV said in a statement.

"This has consequences for the transport of gas into Europe. Currently we are recording a reduction in deliveries of around 30 percent at the Baumgarten natural gas station in Lower Austria."

According to OMV's website, around one third of Russia's total natural gas exports to western Europe are transported to customers via the Baumgarten station.

More than 150 people have died in a cold snap currently gripping Europe, including 63 in Ukraine and 29 in Poland.
