Planet Labs PBC (NYSE: PL), a global leader in daily Earth observation data, has secured a $7.5 million contract renewal with the US Navy through its subsidiary, Planet Labs Federal, to continue vessel detection and maritime monitoring across the Pacific region.

The renewed project integrates Planet's daily global PlanetScope imagery and high-resolution SkySat data into the SeaVision maritime situational awareness platform, jointly developed by the US Navy and the Department of Transportation. It also extends Planet's collaboration with SynMax, whose AI-powered Theia technology enhances detection of vessels not broadcasting Automatic Identification System (AIS) signals.

This integration allows the SeaVision platform to identify and track "dark vessels" potentially engaged in smuggling, illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, or illicit ship-to-ship transfers. Data is shared across SeaVision users to create a unified maritime operating picture and strengthen regional security cooperation.

"The Indo-Pacific is one of the busiest and most strategically important regions in the world; a hub of global trade with vast waters and dense vessel activity," said Jon Powers, Planet Federal's VP of Global Defense and Intelligence. "Understanding the maritime environment remains as critical as ever, and demands persistent, broad area coverage. Planet is proud to continue delivering this unique capability, supporting the US Navy and regional partners with imagery-based insights to foster stability and prosperity across the region."

Planet Labs Federal continues to provide satellite data and analytics to US federal civilian agencies, the Department of Defense, and the intelligence community to help monitor and respond to global developments.
