Philippine storm death toll rises to seven
by Staff Writers
Manila (AFP) July 02, 2013

The Philippine death toll from Tropical Storm Rumbia rose to seven on Tuesday as three more victims were found after the storm left the country, the government said.

All those killed had drowned after a small boat overturned while sailing between two small islands in the country's centre off the large island of Panay on Saturday, the civil defence office said.

The bodies of a 72-year-old woman passenger and two children aged six and 10, who were earlier reported missing, have been found, it said in a statement.

The same incident left four other children aged between one month and eight years dead, while eight other passengers were rescued on Sunday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said.

Rumbia sliced across the centre of the Philippines last weekend, briefly disrupting ferry and local aviation services and power supplies.
