New Zealand receives ANZAC combat system trainer
by Ryan Maass
Washington (UPI) Mar 14, 2017

New Zealand's navy received new training equipment from Lockheed Martin Canada supporting the country's planned ANZAC Frigate System Upgrade.

The training material is designed to prepare New Zealand's naval personnel for operating combat systems to be integrated with new maritime platforms.

New Zealand's government approved the upgrade plan for its naval forces in April 2014. The project includes deliveries of updated prime systems, missiles, sonar and underwater communications, anti-ship missile decoys, and other equipment.

"It is wonderful to receive the trainer early which will allow our sailors to be properly prepared when the upgraded ships arrive," Rear Admiral John Martin said in a press release.

Lockheed Martin Canada Rotary and Mission Systems vice president and general manager Rosemary Chapdelaine says the product will prepare naval forces for a generational shift in training capability using realistic simulations that can imitate real-world conditions.

"We are proud of our Canadian-developed solution and thrilled to deliver this advanced capability to the Royal New Zealand Navy," she said.

The event marked the first international delivery of Lockheed Martin Canada's CMS 330 combat management system. Company officials say the product was tailored to fit New Zealand's maritime defense needs.
