New York area airports all reopen: officials

by Staff Writers
New York (AFP) Dec 27, 2010
All major airports in the busy New York metropolitan area reopened Monday after a day-long blizzard shut-down, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

John F. Kennedy International Airport and La Guardia Airport in New York City, as well as Newark International in New Jersey, were closed after a storm which started Sunday drove snow, lightning and gale force winds across the region.

By 7:30 pm Monday (0030 GMT Tuesday) they had all reopened, the FAA said.

Millions of people heading back to work after Christmas or traveling for New Year's vacations saw delays during the storm.
