NAVTEQ reminds drivers to update their GPS navigation systems to prepare for the summer driving season. Many drivers using older systems experience frustration when their GPS navigation system doesn't know about that new interstate exit or one-way street change. Map updates are ideal to address this concern.

NAVTEQ, the most widely used map for navigation*, builds the digital maps that power most in-vehicle navigation systems, as well as leading GPS device brands.

The NAVTEQ field analysts make millions of changes and additions to the NAVTEQ map so that drivers who purchase a map update have the freshest, most comprehensive map data available.

Due to the volume of road network changes and Points of Interest additions such as banks/ATMs, gas stations, restaurants and hotels, NAVTEQ recommends users update their maps each year to maintain optimal navigation system performance. In fact, according to NAVTEQ research, drivers report that their overall navigation system performance improves when a new map update is installed.

Drivers have the option to purchase digital map updates for their car's installed navigation system or portable navigation device.

The newly redesigned Navigation.com offers a one-stop shop for consumers looking for GPS map updates. With map update products for more than 200 car models, Navigation.com is a comprehensive online store for nearly every vehicle with an installed navigation system in North America and Europe

Navigation.com offers map updates for factory installed navigation systems for Audi, BMW, Chrysler, Dodge, Ford, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, Jeep, Land Rover, Lincoln, Mercury, MINI, Mazda, Porsche, Volkswagen and Volvo. Map updates can also be purchased at location dealerships for BMW, Chrysler, Dodge, Ford, Jeep, Lexus, Lincoln, Mercedes-Benz, Mercury, MINI, Mazda, Porsche and Toyota.

For all other brands, Navigation.com offers a web link and/or hotline phone numbers for ordering map updates.

Map updates are also available for Garmin portable navigation devices at participating online and retail stores: Amazon.com, Best Buy, Circuit City, Garmin.com, RadioShack and Wal-Mart.

At Garmin.com, the map updates are available via DVD or direct download from the site. Drivers can expect map updates for other portable navigation devices to be available soon.

"The summer driving season is the perfect time for drivers with navigation systems that are over a year old to purchase a map update. Drivers are realizing that by keeping their GPS maps up-to-date they maintain optimal navigation system performance," said Jeff Mize, executive vice president, NAVTEQ.

"With a map update, drivers are able to maintain routing accuracy as well as efficient route planning on their journeys."
