JinkoSolar Donates Solar Modules Fighting Against HIV/AIDs in Uganda

JinkoSolar Holding has announced that it has donated 5 kW of high efficiency solar panels to a local orphanage and clinic with children affected by HIV/AIDS, through Healthcare Volunteer Uganda ("HVU"), a Uganda-based NGO.

JinkoSolar's solar panels will help to guarantee long-term electricity supplies to HVU's offices, clinics and dormitories. HVU provides patients with comprehensive treatment for HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and other diseases.

The clinic expects to serve over ten thousand rural villagers in the surrounding area. Before the installation of the solar PV system, the clinic's only source for generating electricity came from costly, polluting and unreliable diesel generators.

"Solar power is recognized as a clean energy resource with the potential to help the most vulnerable," said Mr. Xiande Li, Chairman of JinkoSolar.

"We are very pleased to have the opportunity to make a contribution to this meaningful project and to see that our solar panels have a direct impact on local communities in need."

"It has always been our goal to help those who are in need," said Mr. Ponny Bukenya, Program Coordinator of Healthcare Volunteer Uganda.

"We are extremely excited to have received this generous donation from JinkoSolar which will help our patients to receive the treatment they need."

Antifreeze, cheap materials may lead to low-cost solar energy
Corvallis OR (SPX) Jul 08, 2013
A process combining some comparatively cheap materials and the same antifreeze that keeps an automobile radiator from freezing in cold weather may be the key to making solar cells that cost less and avoid toxic compounds, while further expanding the use of solar energy. And when perfected, this approach might also cook up the solar cells in a microwave oven similar to the one in most kitch ... read more
