Honeywell to provide navigation system for U.K. AJAX vehicles
by Ryan Maass
Rolle, Switzerland (UPI) Nov 30, 2016

Honeywell has been contracted to provide TALIN navigation equipment for the British Army's new AJAX armored fighting vehicles.

TALIN is a laser-guided land navigation system that can be installed on military and commercial platforms. The devices weight roughly 13 pounds per unit, and can be installed in a variety of ways. Honeywell says the product is smaller and lighter than other competing navigation solutions.

"Over 15,000 Honeywell TALIN systems are deployed by land, air and sea on more than 60 military and commercial platforms worldwide," Honeywell senior OEM director Milind Ghanekar said in a press release. "The British Army's AJAX program builds on our extensive experience with this highly precise navigation technology."

By receiving the contract, Honeywell joins General Dynamics in supporting the British Army's new fleet of AJAX armored fighting vehicles. Originally known as the Scout, military officials estimate the final product will weight between 38 and 42 tons, and will be armed with an L94A1 coaxial 7.62mm chain, and a PMRS weapon station.

Additional capabilities will include acoustic detectors, a laser warning system, and an electronic counter-measure system. Honeywell is confident their contributions will make the AJAX a formidable asset on the battlefield.

"Soldiers depend on technologies to provide unparalleled precision aboard their combat vehicles, as do workers using sensor platforms or mining equipment," Ghanekar added.
