HYLAS 2 Satellite To Be Launched By Arianespace
Paris, France (SPX) Dec 22, 2009 Avanti Communications Group has chosen Arianespace to launch its HYLAS 2 communications satellite. The HYLAS 2 satellite will be boosted into geostationary transfer orbit in the first half of 2012 by an Ariane 5 or Soyuz launcher operating at the Guiana Space Center, Europe's Spaceport in French Guiana. It is the second Avanti satellite to be launched by Arianespace. HYLAS 2 will be built by Orbital Sciences Corporation in Dulles, Virginia, using a Star-2 platform. The satellite will weigh approximately up to 4,000 kg at launch. HYLAS 2 will offer a design life of 15 years and will provide direct-to-home TV broadcast and data transmission services for Europe. HYLAS 2 will be the 17th satellite built by Orbital Sciences Corporation to be launched by Arianespace. "I am grateful to Arianespace for their help in completing this transaction and delighted to be able to work with them again to deepen our partnership on this second launch," said David Williams, Chief Executive of Avanti Communications Group plc. "This new contract - which is the second we've signed with Avanti Communications, and our 11th in 2009 - closes out an exceptional year for Arianespace, which was capped three days ago by our seventh launch of the year," said Arianespace Chairman and CEO Jean-Yves Le Gall. "I wish to thank Avanti Communications for the confidence it has once again placed in Arianespace with this contract for the launch of HYLAS 2. For Arianespace, this is a recognition of the quality and competitiveness of our Service and Solutions launch offer." Share This Article With Planet Earth
