AdvanceBio Systems has acquired exclusive intellectual property (IP) rights to provide pre-treatment equipment and systems on a turnkey basis to the next-generation cellulosic ethanol and renewable chemicals industries.

The acquisition of this IP marks a natural extension for AdvanceBio, a fuel and chemical consulting services and technology company. AdvanceBio provides consulting services and technology to companies that are developing new projects in the biofuels industry and biochemical sector.

"We are designing small-scale reactor systems for use by researchers who are developing the next generation of microorganisms, enzymes, feedstocks and crops," said Dale Monceaux, principal at AdvanceBio. "This equipment will replace the batch steam guns currently used by researchers in universities and technology development companies."

AdvanceBio also intends to provide commercial scale systems to corporations planning industrial-scale facilities. "The IP has been applied to a pilot scale system which has operated on bagasse, rice hulls and corn stover," added Bipin Shroff, AdvanceBio principal.

According to reports from the U.S. Department of Energy, more than a dozen companies are currently performing research to develop technology for next-generation renewable liquid fuels. Some of this research is also being conducted in Australia, Brazil, China, Canada and Europe.

AdvanceBio LLC was formed in 2007 by principals who brought together more than 75 years of experience in the fuel and chemical technology industry. Today, the firm provides consulting services and technology to companies that are developing new projects in the biofuels industry and biochemical sector.

The firm consults with clients regarding plant operations, technology development, and process design and project management. They provide value-added utilization of renewable resources through the development and commercialization of new and innovative technologies, including starch-, sugar- and lignocellulosic-based bioethanol.
