The death toll from Russian missile and drone strikes on Ukraine's capital has risen to six, including a six-year-old boy, the city's military administration said on Thursday.

"As of now, the services have confirmed six deaths," Tymur Tkachenko, head of the military administration, said in a post on Telegram.

Russian attack on Ukraine capital kills one, wounds more than 40
Kyiv, Ukraine (AFP) July 31, 2025 - Russia carried out drone and missile strikes on Kyiv early Thursday, killing one person and wounding more than 40, with damage caused to the children's ward of a hospital as well as a school, government officials said.

The attacks targeted at least 10 locations around the Ukrainian capital, the city's military administration said on Telegram.

"Tonight, the enemy attacked the capital with missiles and drones. Sviatoshynsky and Solomyansky districts suffered the most. In total, as of 6:30 am in Kyiv, 1 person was killed and more than 20 were wounded," Ukraine's interior minister Igor Klymenko said on Telegram.

"The number of wounded in Kyiv has increased to 43. 26 of them were hospitalised in the capital's medical institutions," Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko said in a post.

The windows of a hospital ward for children in Shevchenkivsky district were blown out by a shockwave, Klitschko said.

Buildings were also damaged in the Golosiivsky district, including a school and kindergarten, he added.

One of the capital's higher educational institutions was hit in the attack, according to the state emergency service.

It comes on the heels of a Russian strike on a military training camp, which killed at least three Ukrainian soldiers on Tuesday.

Kyiv has been trying to repel Russia's summer offensive, which has made fresh advances into areas largely spared since the start of the invasion in February 2022.

The Kremlin has come under intense pressure to end its war on Ukraine, now in its fourth year, with US President Donald Trump issuing a 10-day ultimatum to act or face sanctions.
