Apisphere Expands With Navit Innovations Acquisiton

Apisphere has announced its intentions to acquire Navit Innovations, a San-Francisco-based developer of location-based technologies and solutions for business and consumer markets.

The acquisition will enable Apisphere to leverage Navit's extensive Global Positioning System (GPS) technology and industry experience to enhance the scope and reach of the location-aware mobility solutions it is offering its customers.

Through this acquisition, Apisphere will add valuable RF engineering, embedded application development, navigation software engineering, and hardware development capabilities to its team.

Navit's GPS product and hardware development expertise will enable Apisphere to expand its addressable market by providing an end-to-end solution that includes location-based services (LBS) development support for cellular handset manufacturers.

"The expertise Navit brings to our team will extend Apisphere's customer reach to include manufacturers who wish to develop mobile handsets that support mobile business processes with on-demand, location-aware capabilities," said Craig Harper, CEO, Apisphere.

"As the mobile application market continues to explode, Apisphere is dedicated to ensuring we are providing our customers and partners with a full range of location-aware solutions to enhance their solutions and allow them to launch customized applications quickly and efficiently."

The strategic acquisition will leverage Apisphere's Geo-Enabled Mobility (GEM) platform which delivers mobile content, including applications and messaging - triggered to launch when users enter specified locations.

Apisphere's GEM platform provides independent software vendors (ISVs), mobile network operators (MNOs), system integrators (SIs) and enterprises with the flexibility and freedom to quickly and easily integrate location-aware features into customized applications.

This combined with Apisphere's software location infrastructure, technology and current market traction opens up a lot of exciting opportunities," said Warren Hewerdine, founder and President of Navit Innovations.

San Diego State University Improves MEMS Accelerometer Tunability

Researchers at San Diego State University have developed a new concept for improving MEMS accelerometer tunability. This method can increase wide-band tunability with ranges much larger than current practice, a significant improvement from the previously accepted 5-10%.
