American Centrifuge Project Creating Thousands Of US Jobs
Bethesda MD (SPX) Aug 25, 2008 USEC's American Centrifuge project is creating thousands of jobs at sites across the United States and helping rebuild America's nuclear manufacturing base. USEC's suppliers are adding jobs and building new facilities to manufacture centrifuge machine parts and support systems for the American Centrifuge Plant in Piketon, Ohio. Plant construction and machine assembly and testing will create additional jobs. USEC estimates that the American Centrifuge Plant will create approximately 3,300 direct and indirect jobs in Ohio, and more than 3,000 direct and indirect jobs at manufacturing sites across the United States. American Centrifuge Plant suppliers that are creating new jobs include Alliant Techsystems Inc. in Rocket Center, W. Va., and Clearfield, Utah; Babcock and Wilcox Technical Services in Oak Ridge, Tenn.; Fluor Enterprises in Piketon, Ohio, and Greenville, S.C.; Hexcel in Salt Lake City, Utah; Honeywell in Piketon, Ohio; Kerotest in Pittsburgh, Pa.; Major Tool and Machine in Indianapolis, Ind.; Northwest Pipe in Parkersburg, W. Va.; and Teledyne Brown in Huntsville, Ala. USEC has spent hundreds of millions of dollars to help America re-establish its nuclear industrial manufacturing base as the country increasingly recognizes the benefits of nuclear power as a primary source of baseload electricity that does not emit harmful greenhouse gases. USEC is deploying the American Centrifuge Plant to provide the dependable, long-term, U.S.-owned nuclear fuel production capability needed to support the country's current nuclear power plants as well as those expected to be built in the future. As America's only commercial uranium enrichment facility using U.S.-owned centrifuge technology, the American Centrifuge Plant will play an important role in America's energy security and national security.
