US committed to space: Obama tells astronauts
Washington (AFP) Feb 17, 2010
US President Barack Obama told astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS) Wednesday that he was deeply committed to space exploration, after scrapping plans to return Americans to the moon. Obama told the US, Russian and Japanese ISS astronauts and comrades who traveled to the station on the shuttle Endeavor that he was proud of them and the work they were doing in space. NASA says cold conditions at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida have forced it to postpone the next space shuttle launch until April. The first batch of concrete was poured Thursday, February 11, marking the start of the final concrete finish phase of the runway construction at Spaceport America, the world's first purposebuilt commercial spaceport.
