Harris' OS/COMET Product Chosen For Constellation Launch Control Program
Dulles VA (SPX) Oct 30, 2008 Harris has announced that NASA Kennedy Space Center has selected its OS/COMET telemetry, tracking, and command (TT and C) software for the Constellation Launch Control System. OS/COMET is a commercial off-the-shelf software tool that provides superior TT and C capabilities for military, intelligence, and commercial satellite constellations. The OS/COMET product will deliver critical command and telemetry processing services to meet the needs of the Launch Control System architecture. The KSC Launch Control System architecture leverages leading-edge industry standards, existing technologies, and commercially available products to provide significant core functionality in the command and control of constellation launch vehicles and ground support systems. Based on open software architecture concepts, the Launch Control System will deploy OS/COMET to provide a service within the Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) pattern. Using OS/COMET as a SOA service capitalizes on its ease of configuration and efficient API interface to the LCS architecture. "Launch control is the perfect space application for OS/COMET and this procurement by KSC is an indication of NASA's new direction of using COTS for the Constellation program," said Frank Van Rensselaer, vice president and senior executive account manager, NASA Programs Harris Corporation. "Harris has a 50-year legacy with the NASA mission to complement more than two decades of successful TT and C deployments supporting commercial and defense spacecraft. OS/COMET is the lowest risk COTS launch control choice for Constellation." Harris NASA Programs business unit conducts advanced research studies and develops network architectures that provide highly reliable, space and terrestrial communications and support solutions for the mission critical challenges of NASA's Exploration program.
