Obama to host April space conference
Washington (AFP) March 7, 2010
US President Barack Obama will host a space conference next month in Florida to chart his vision for the future of human spaceflight, the White House said Sunday. The April 15 event comes after Obama last month proposed dropping the massively over-budget Constellation program launched by his predecessor, George W. Moffett Field CA (SPX) Mar 05, 2010
The film "Avatar" takes viewers to a fictional moon, where the plants glow, shoot poison leaf tips and communicate. None of this fits exactly with our definition of "plant," but one botanist has pieced together an ecological back-story for how plants may have evolved on this strange world. The moon Pandora is depicted as a lush rainforest that may remind some of Hawaii or Borneo. But the E ... more

Two Crews For Tiangong
Sydney, Australia (SPX) Mar 05, 2010
We've recently had another short "up periscope" moment in monitoring China's human spaceflight program. This latest scan, produced from some Chinese media statements, suggests that the Tiangong space laboratory will be launched in 2011, and three Shenzhou missions will be sent to it in the future. The launch of Tiangong next year is a disappointment to those who were hoping for some action in 2010, but it's not surprising. China had always specified a broad timeframe for the launch. Tiangong is a ... read more
